Music Lessons

At Bewdley Primary School, children have the opportunity to learn a variety of musical instruments, all taught by external tutors. 

Lessons occur weekly during the school day. Most lessons are taught individually, but some instruments can be taught in pairs. Lessons are invoiced half-term in advance for parents/carers by the music teacher. Lessons are £13 for an individual 20-minute lesson, or £8 for a shared 20-minute lesson. 

BPS has limited instruments that can be hired out to students and tutors can also advise on external organisations where instruments can be hired or purchased.

Mrs Price – Classroom Music Teacher, Piano, Violin, Cello and Double Bass Teacher 

Studied double bass at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and was awarded an Honorary Membership in 2007 for her contribution to the Arts. 

Mrs Price is the double bass player and director of Toscana Strings and has been teaching strings and piano locally for many years! During the summer as well as performing, Mrs Price is also Stage Manager for the Classic Ibiza Tour which has been touring for over ten years. 

 

Frank – Trumpet, Cornet, Trombone and Tenor Horn Teacher 

Frank studied music at Birmingham Conservatoire under the tutelage of Andy Culshaw (ex Fine Arts Brass Ensemble), John Holland and Wes Warren (both ex CBSO). 

Since graduating from the Conservatoire Frank has played with some of the country’s leading orchestras, including the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, B.B.C. Philharmonic Orchestra, the English National Ballet Orchestra, English Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra of the Swan, Armonico Orchestra, Orchestra da Camera, Bach Camerata, and The Limelight Orchestra.  Frank worked at the Royal Shakespeare Company on their version of A Christmas Carol.

Frank has been teaching for many years and presently teaches at The Croft Preparatory School in Stratford, King Edward VI School (Aston) and Nunnery Wood School.

 

Miss Brown – Keyboard Teacher 

Graduated from Kidderminster College with an Upper Distinction in Music Performance and Teaching. 

Miss Brown teaches in many local primary schools as well as Load Street Studios.    

Miss Foster – Flute and Clarinet Teacher 

Studied flute at The Royal College of Music and a PGCE at Birmingham City University. 

Miss Foster is principal flautist with The Birmingham Philharmonic Orchestra and an experienced teacher in the West Midlands. 

 

Mr Lewis – Guitar and Drum Teacher 

Studied contemporary music at the ACM in Guilford and has a diploma in teaching. 

Mr Lewis has been teaching drumming, guitar and bass guitar for over 21 years and has played in many bands with genres including rock, funk and New Orleans-style jazz. 

 

Mrs Claire Darby - Singing and Drama Teacher

Claire has been working as an actress and singer for more than 30 years and has been teaching singing and drama for the past 20 years.  She trained for three years at Birmingham School of Speech and Drama with an additional short course in television acting.

Claire has worked in the diverse areas of theatre, television, film and concert halls in performances ranging from musical theatre, opera and pop music to Shakespeare and contemporary drama and has appeared internationally for Incognito Artists at venues including The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and The British Embassy, Dubai.  She is a resident vocalist with The Midlands Concert Orchestra and is a founder member of the 1930/40s vocal quartet Berkeley Square. She has performed for numerous celebrities and royalty, including Sir Elton John and Prince Edward.
