PE

We believe that physical education and sport should be enjoyable, inclusive and accessible to every child. We want children to develop the skills, confidence and enthusiasm to lead active, healthy lives, both during their time at school and beyond.

Through two PE lessons each week, children experience a broad and varied curriculum that develops their physical skills alongside teamwork, resilience, communication and a willingness to challenge themselves.

We are incredibly proud to have achieved the School Games Gold Mark for four consecutive years, recognising our commitment to providing a wide range of opportunities for physical activity, participation and school sport. We are now working towards the Platinum School Games Mark.

Our PE Curriculum

Physical development begins in Nursery and Reception, where children develop their movement, coordination, balance and confidence through purposeful play, outdoor learning and planned experiences within the Early Years Foundation Stage.

From Year 1 onwards, children follow a progressive PE curriculum, with Get Set4 PE supporting teachers in planning and delivering engaging and appropriately challenging lessons.

In Key Stage 1, children develop fundamental movement skills through activities including gymnastics, dance, ball skills, invasion games and athletics.

As children move through Key Stage 2, they build on these foundations, developing increasingly sophisticated techniques, tactics and an understanding of different sports. Their experiences include hockey, netball, basketball, cricket, tennis and rugby, alongside gymnastics, dance, athletics and outdoor adventurous activities. Swimming is included in our Year 3 curriculum.

Throughout their PE journey, children learn to evaluate their performance, work collaboratively, solve problems and develop the confidence to improve.

Sport Beyond PE Lessons

Sport is an important part of life at Bewdley Primary School, and we are committed to providing opportunities that extend well beyond our weekly PE lessons. As an active member of the Wyre Forest School Sports Partnership, our children participate in dozens of sporting festivals, competitions and tournaments throughout the year.

These include both competitive events and inclusive participation festivals, ensuring that children with different abilities, interests and experiences have opportunities to get involved, try something new and represent their school. We also hold inter-house sporting competitions, encouraging teamwork, friendly competition and a sense of belonging within our school community.

We recognise that sporting achievement means different things to different children. Whether winning a competition, mastering a new skill, representing the school for the first time or simply discovering an activity they enjoy, every achievement matters.

Sports Day – A Celebration of Sport and Community

Sports Day is one of the highlights of our school year! Children proudly represent their houses in a mixture of fun team activities and competitive individual events, cheering one another on and celebrating everyone's efforts and achievements.

Families are warmly invited to join us as spectators, and our traditional family picnic makes the day a wonderful opportunity for the whole school community to come together. It's a day filled with teamwork, determination, encouragement and, most importantly, enjoyment!

Physical Activity Throughout the School Day

We recognise that being active isn't limited to PE lessons. Through playtimes, outdoor activities and our developing OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) approach, we are creating further opportunities for children to be active, imaginative and adventurous throughout the school day.

We know that one of the best ways to encourage children to be physically active is to make it fun! What better way to do that than with a Colour Run!
