A day in the life at Elmer’s Nursery!
When the children arrive we find our named peg to pop our coat on, then we find the water bottles shelf and place our lunch boxes in our silver buckets. We then head off to play inside and explore what learning we have to offer that day.
At around 9.30 we begin our rolling snack time. Each day we have a variety of fruit and savoury options to try as well as a carton of milk each.
At 10 o'clock we all come together for some community time on the carpet. Here we go through the visual timetable for the morning and share any news from Miss Hinton. We then go off for circle time with our key group. We have 4 key groups this year, Miss Hinton’s Starfish, Miss Ward’s Jellyfish, Miss Millington’s Seahorses and Mrs Taylor and Mrs Dent’s Turtles. During circle time we practise our listening and attention skills through games, stories and talking.
Once we are done with circle time we take it in turns to wash our hands ready for some more choosing, this time with the outside open. We carry on choosing inside and out, not forgetting to swap our shoes for our wellies if we want to play outside. Everyone is getting very good at taking off their shoes and placing them on the shelf to keep them safe.
At 11.50 it's time to get our shoes on and come inside for a group story. Some of us get ready for home and some of us wash our hands ready for lunch. Then we all sit down for lunch with our friends in Hungry Caterpillars.
For the rest of the afternoon we are free to choose our learning in the inside and outside classroom. Sometimes there is also an activity that we can join in with run by one of the grown-ups. This could be anything from painting to dancing. Check the facebook page and website for what we get up to!
At 2.30pm we begin helping to tidy our classrooms before coming together one final time to sing some songs and get ready for home.
If you would like to know any more about what we get up to here in Elmer's class, please don't hesitate to ask.
