There were points available for all of the book-based questions but also Values Points available for positivity and respect.

We held our Key Stage One quiz this morning which left three houses on the exact same score so we hoped that the points added on by Key Stage Two in the afternoon would give us a clear winner. Well, when all points were added together, we had two houses tied on 55 points and two houses tied on 53!  

After a very tense tie-break question, (How many copies have been sold worldwide of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone?) we can announce that Blackstone were the winners of The Big BPS Book Quiz, very closely followed by Hawkbatch in 2nd, Wyre in 3rd and Severn in 4th!

(For those of you about to head to Google, the answer to the tie-break question is 120 million!)

The book focuses on a refugee child living in the UK and really adds to the children's current topic, Journeys. The play was brilliant and really demonstrated the emotions that are felt throughout the book, whilst also being fun and funny. 

They visited the House of Lords in the public gallery while it was in session and then went on to the House of Commons to see where the Prime Minister and MPs debate the issues of the day.

They finished their tour with a workshop about democracy and learned about how ideas are turned into laws. They even had a brief chat with Lord Russell of Liverpool - Stanley Baldwin’s great grandson!

Reception and Key Stage One didn't need to travel far as the theatre company came to the school hall to perform The Great Christmas Robbery which was jam-packed with fun! 

Meanwhile, Key Stage Two travelled to Birmingham Rep to see an astonishing production of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe which was absolutely mesmerising. The children were incredibly respectful throughout the performance and thoroughly enjoyed their visit to the theatre. 

We have so much footage from the event which will take a while to edit but we'll share it with you as soon as possible. 

Meanwhile, the winners of the overall competition were finally revealed! Congratulations to Severn who were the overall house winners and to Alyssa from Severn for winning Pupil of the Year with the most points across the competition. 

Well done to Amelie from Blackstone, Ruadhan from Hawkbatch and Erika from Wyre who came top in their houses. We celebrated our winning adult from each house too: Mrs Llewelyn from Blackstone, Mrs Davies from Hawkbatch, Mrs Thompson from Severn and Miss Bradley from Wyre! 

We also gave out a Values Award for the child from each house who embodied our school values throughout the competition. Well done to William from Severn, Remell from Blackstone, Lola from Wyre and Isla from Hawkbatch! 

Well done to everyone who took part in any area of the competition - BPS at its best! 

The cakes were sorted into their houses and then the House Captains and House Staff voted for the top three to go through to the final. Thankfully, we were very lucky to have an independent judge, Kimmy from Kimmy Loves Cakes, who came into school to make the final decisions. Although she loved seeing all the different entries, she certainly did not enjoy having to choose winners as the standard was so high!

Severn are currently leading the way, closely followed by Hawkbatch, Blackstone and Wyre. We cannot wait to see what the children (and staff!) think up for the next category - a miniature garden on a plate which needs to be in by Monday 27^th March.
