Our Inclusive School
A Place Where Everyone Belongs
At Bewdley Primary School, we believe that every child should feel that they belong. Inclusion is woven into everyday school life, from the way we teach and support learning to the relationships we build and the opportunities we provide.
We recognise that every child brings different strengths, experiences and needs, and that circumstances outside school can sometimes affect a child's experience of learning and school life. Our aim is to create an environment where differences are understood and celebrated, barriers are recognised and addressed wherever possible, and every child has the opportunity to achieve their best.
For us, inclusion is not simply about being present. It is about being valued, having a voice, developing independence and taking a meaningful part in school life.
Learning TogetherWe have high expectations for all our children and believe that every pupil deserves access to an ambitious, engaging curriculum. Our teachers use thoughtful adaptations to help children access learning in different ways. This might include visual resources, practical equipment, additional explanations, opportunities for discussion or carefully structured support. We recognise that children do not all learn in the same way or at the same pace. By responding to individual needs, we aim to help every child develop confidence, independence and a genuine sense of achievement.
Taking Part in School LifeInclusion extends far beyond the classroom. Playtimes, school trips, clubs, performances, celebrations and opportunities for responsibility are all important parts of children's experiences at Bewdley Primary School. Through our developing OPAL approach, we are creating richer opportunities for play, exploration, friendship and creativity. We recognise that not all children have the same opportunities or experiences outside school, and we value the role that school can play in helping children discover new interests, develop confidence and enjoy experiences together. Some children may need additional planning, adjustments or support to access particular activities. We work with families and staff to identify barriers and make participation possible wherever we can. Every child should have opportunities to make memories, discover new interests, build friendships and feel part of our school community. |
Removing BarriersWe understand that children may face different challenges at different times. These may relate to learning, communication, emotional wellbeing, friendships, family circumstances or access to opportunities and experiences. Sometimes a small adjustment can make a significant difference. This might involve adapting classroom routines or resources, offering additional reassurance, providing practical support or helping a child to participate in an activity they might otherwise find difficult. We work sensitively with children and families to understand what may be affecting their experience of school and consider how we can help. Our aim is not to make every child's experience identical, but to ensure that every child has a fair opportunity to participate, learn and thrive.
Belonging and WellbeingFeeling safe, understood and connected is an important part of being ready to learn. We place great importance on positive relationships, friendships and emotional wellbeing. Our staff work to create welcoming classrooms where children feel comfortable asking for help, expressing their feelings and celebrating one another's successes. Where children need additional support, our pastoral provision, nurture approaches and trusted adults help them develop the confidence and skills to navigate school life. We want every child to know that they matter and that there are people in school who will listen and help. |
Working TogetherWe know that families understand their children in ways that are invaluable to us. By listening carefully, sharing information and working together, we can provide support that is thoughtful, responsive and centred on each child. If you have questions about your child's experience of school, or feel there is something we could do differently to help them feel included, please speak to us. Your voice matters and we are always happy to listen. |
